Belarus ready to provide European MPs with objective information about domestic situation

16.10.2020

Belarusian MPs are open to interaction with European colleagues and are ready to provide them with the objective information about the social and political situation in the country, Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic Sergei Rachkov told BelTA.

On 20 August, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova and Chairman of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko sent an address to 39 chairmen of the European Union's parliaments on the situation in Belarus following the presidential election. The speakers called to look into what is happening in the country objectively and unemotionally, to engage in a constructive dialogue and offered to present concrete irrefutable facts providing the background of the current events in Belarus, including the interference from abroad,” Sergei Rachkov noted.

A month and a half later the Belarusian parliament received a response only from the president of the Belgian Senate. "European MPs backed away from dialogue with Belarusian counterparts, and chose to receive the information about the situation in Belarus from the people who have no right to represent the Belarusian state and the Belarusian people. In addition, on 18 September, the Presidium of the Council of the Republic adopted a statement in connection with the resolution of the European Parliament on the situation in our country, in which Belarusian senators called on European MPs to refrain from interfering in the internal affairs of the country," the senator said.

"The address of the speakers of both houses of the National Assembly to their colleagues in the EU parliaments shows that Belarusian parliamentarians are open to interaction with European MPs and are ready to provide them with objective information about the social and political situation in our country," Sergei Rachkov said.
