Border security concept to enhance Belarus' good neighborly belt

18.10.2018

The implementation of the national border security concept for the 2018-2022 period will enhance the good neighborly belt with foreign countries. The document was approved by Belarus president decree No.410 on 16 October. The document is designed to improve the protection of national interests against external and internal threats in the border space, ensure uniform approaches to shaping and implementing the state border policy, and improve the security of the state border, representatives of the State Border Committee of Belarus told BelTA.

According to the source, the concept's implementation will allow improving the national border security system by 2023 in addition to stepping up the effectiveness of cooperation in detecting, minimizing, and neutralizing transboundary dangers. It will also enhance the belt of good neighborly relations with other countries in addition to giving a modern look to the state border.

The concept's development has been prompted by an increase in negative factors able to bring about threats to national security in the country's border space.

The concept is designed to lay down priority guidelines on enhancing Belarus' border security in the medium term. The document is also meant to tweak the counteraction of modern threats of transboundary nature, improve forms and ways of interaction between entities, which wield authority in the area of the state border policy. The document also mentions work with border zone residents for the sake of ensuring the security of the national border.

The concept is also supposed to help find and use new sources of funding for border security projects, form a conceptual platform for the thorough analysis of state border policy, including scientific one.

The national border security concept for the 2008-2017 period has been implemented.
