A species of myxomycetes previously unrecorded in Belarus has been identified in Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park, BelTA learned from the park's administration.
“During a field expedition to Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park from 14-18 July 2025, mycologist Yevgeny Moroz of the Mycology Laboratory identified Lycogala roseosporum Leontyev, Schnittler, Ishchenko & P. Vetlesen, a myxomycete species previously unrecorded in Belarus,” the national park informed.
Myxomycetes (slime molds) belong to the class Mycetozoa, comprising over 800 species and representing the largest group within Amoebozoa. Myxomycetes share evolutionary ties with both fungi and animals.
