Belarus to create national spatial data infrastructure

National spatial data infrastructure will be created in Belarus. The step is stipulated by the Council of Ministers’ resolution No.32 of 16 January 2024, BelTA has learned.

The document has been published by the national legislation registry. It approves a regulation on the national spatial data infrastructure. The State Property Committee has been entrusted with organizing the creation and development of the national spatial data infrastructure in addition to analyzing its operation. The regulation also covers suppliers and users of spatial data sets, services for spatial data sets, and metadata concerning such sets and services. The typical components of the national spatial data infrastructure include sets of basic spatial data; sets of domain-specific spatial data; the national geoportal; services for sets of spatial data; metadata concerning sets of spatial data and services for such sets. The resolution also approves a regulation on the national geoportal. The resolution also stipulates the procedure for setting up, running, and developing the national geoportal as well as a list of services the portal’s operator will provide. In accordance with the document the national geoportal will host metadata about the sets of spatial data the national spatial data infrastructure contains and services available for these sets; mandatory sets of basic spatial data and mandatory sets of domain-specific spatial data the national spatial data infrastructure contains; sets of basic spatial data and sets of domain-specific spatial data, which have been added to the national spatial data infrastructure by application; services available for the sets of spatial data the infrastructure contains; other kinds of data. The State Property Committee has been instructed to set up the national geoportal by 31 December 2025. The main provisions of the document come into force as of the official publication date. Other provisions, including those relating to the operation of the national spatial data infrastructure and the national geoportal, will come into force on 1 January 2026.
