Conditions in place for digital growth across board in Belarus

Conditions are being enabled in Belarus for digital changes in all avenues of development. Belarusian Communications and Informatization Minister Konstantin Shulgan mentioned it at sessions of the Board of Communications Administrations Heads of the Regional Commonwealth in the Field of Communications and the Coordination Council for Informatization under the Regional Commonwealth in the Field of Communications in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, BelTA has learned.

The heads of communication administrations discussed promising avenues of digital development, matters of current interest concerning the communication industry and the information and communication industry at the national level, progress in implementing a strategy on cooperation of the CIS states in building and developing an information society in the period till 2025 and an action plan on implementing the strategy.

Konstantin Shulgan presented the industry's accomplishments and promising avenues of digital development in Belarus. In his words, Belarus is busy developing information infrastructure while skillfully exploiting benefits of its unique geographical position. Considerable progress has been achieved in the digital environment. Belarus is at the forefront of introduction of information and communication technologies in the Commonwealth of Independent States. Belarus president decree No.136 of 7 April 2022 designated the Communications and Informatization Ministry as the agency in charge of managing digital development processes in all branches of the national economy. The processes include the regulation of efforts to create and develop digital state platforms, information systems and resources; the definition of the universal technical and technology policy, including with regard to the common architecture of state digital platforms and requirements for the information systems that connect to the platforms. New institutions for supporting IT projects have been created.

The agenda also includes matters concerning the realization of the strategy on ensuring information security of the CIS member states in the period till 2030. Top officials of the Board of Communications Administrations Heads of the Regional Commonwealth in the Field of Communications and the Coordination Council for Informatization will have to be elected. The venue for the next joint session of the two bodies will have to be defined.

The board is the supreme administration body of the Regional Commonwealth in the Field of Communications and makes decisions once all the members are in agreement.
