MP: Belarus, Azerbaijan cooperate in many areas
Belarus and Azerbaijan cooperate in many areas, Chairman of the Standing Commission on Legislation and State Building of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Rusy told reporters on 11 June, BelTA has learned.
Chairwoman of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova met with Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova and Chairperson of the House of Representatives Igor Sergeyenko. The parliamentary delegation of Azerbaijan is visiting Belarus these days.
"We have very important agreements. Cooperation has been reformatted following the working trip of the head of state to Azerbaijan. Just last week, the intergovernmental commission approved a new roadmap. The task is to reach $1 billion in trade, i.e. to double it. Areas of cooperation are many,” Mikhail Rusy said. “Today, we discussed issues, including technical: how to remove obstacles that hinder the development of economies and investments. If there are still any shortcomings, then they must be promptly eliminated."
Much has been done over the years, the MP noted. "For several years, I headed the intergovernmental trade and economic commission for the development of cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Azerbaijan. With the help of Belarus, Azerbaijan created a new industry - agricultural mechanical engineering. A tractor plant with a considerable capacity has been built in Ganja. Another step has been taken on the platform of joint work Belarus-Azerbaijan-Türkiye. Today it was noted that it is time to switch to multi-sectoral, multi-stage approaches. Many issues have been resolved in the field of agriculture, mutual trade, energy and defense."
