New artistic, educational projects suggested for Belarus-Russia Union State budget
Members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia have suggested including new artistic and educational projects into the budget of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, the assembly's press service told BelTA after a session of the Culture, Science, and Education Commission held in Danilov Monastery in Moscow on 7 September.
Members of the Culture, Science, and Education Commission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia discussed the main directions of their work and the strategy for 2023-2024. The MPs were informed about programs, projects, measures, and steps in the sphere of science, culture, and education which the Union State budget is supposed to finance in 2023. The MPs emphasized the importance of expanding joint work on advancing culture, science, and education as part of advancement of Belarus-Russia integration processes. A considerable increase in funding for Union State programs and projects in culture, science, and finance was suggested. The Culture, Science, and Education Commission suggested increasing the number of Belarusian-Russian projects and events in this area.
Proposals put forward by members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia include the creation of a center for Slavonic culture of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, the production of short films about heroes and outstanding public figures of Belarus and Russia, the production of the feature film Sergius of Radonezh, and the financing of other movie projects at the expense of the Union State budget. Apart from that, projects envisaging patriotic upbringing and the protection of historical memory were discussed. The MPs decided to send the relevant proposals to appropriate government agencies of Belarus and Russia.
The need to step up interaction with the Russian Orthodox Church was mentioned. The organization of joint events meant to preserve the cultural and spiritual legacy of Belarus and Russia was suggested with this in mind.
Taking part in the session were Chairman of the Culture, Science, and Education Commission Nikolai Burlyayev, members of the commission Olga Germanova, Natalia Kosikhina, and Anna Starovoitova. Representatives of the Standing Committee of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, the Russian Orthodox Church, the Belarusian and Russian culture ministries, the Belarusian Education Ministry, the Russian Science and Higher Education Ministry, the Russian Education Ministry, people of culture and art were also invited to attend the session.
