Khrenin: Defense Ministry begins to withdraw troops from southern border
The Defense Ministry is beginning to withdraw troops from the southern border to places of permanent deployment, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin told the media following a meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko to discuss the country's military security in the southern operational district on 13 July, BelTA has learned.
"We see that the tension in the southern operational district is subsiding, therefore, the president instructed a group of troops sent to reinforce the southern operational district, which is based on special operations forces, to withdraw from the border zone and return to the home bases. We are immediately beginning to fulfill this instruction," the minister explained.
According to him, insignificant forces and means will remain in place to monitor the situation on the southern border.
