Lukashenko comments on innuendo over upcoming Belarus president election date
Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko commented on the innuendo concerning the date of the upcoming Belarus president election as he held a government conference on 10 September to discuss topical domestic policy matters and preparations for political campaigns, BelTA has learned.
"There is one thing that I'm not going to pass by. The internet and the media absolutely squeal about it every day. Especially in recent weeks. A flood of different innuendo and hype surrounds the matter of the date of the upcoming presidential election. Either the Americans or our self-exiled opposition have even scheduled the election and set the date themselves. They have developed a lot of conspiracy theories on this matter."
"According to the Constitution, the next presidential election in Belarus should be held not later than on 20 July [2025]. This date is the deadline by which we should hold the election. We need to define the voting day and electoral period very thoughtfully, because we will have to take people and labor resources away to the commissions we will create. It is necessary to do everything to avoid breaking the country's routine way of life," the Belarusian leader emphasized.
He warned that it will not be easy, as opponents are already trying to influence the situation. "New information flows of all possible insults will come. We see perfectly well and control everything that is happening around us, outside and inside our country," Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
