Lukashenko taking part in SCO summit
Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko will take part in the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on 4 July. The leaders will convene via video conference, BelTA informs.
India took over the chairmanship of the SCO for the first time from Uzbekistan in September 2022. The theme of the virtual meeting is “Towards a SECURE SCO”. The acronym SECURE was proposed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the SCO summit in 2018 and stands for Security, Economy and Trade, Connectivity, Unity, Respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity and Environment. These topics have become the main themes for the Indian presidency in the SCO.
During its presidency, India has also given impetus to areas such as Digital Inclusion, Youth Empowerment and Common Buddhist Heritage.
At present, Belarus is working to get full membership in the SCO. Such a decision was taken at the Samarkand summit in September 2022. The Belarusian side is determined to do this as soon as possible.
