A Belarusian delegation is attending the Congress of the Universal Postal Union in Riyadh, BelTA learned from the press service of the Communications and Informatization Ministry of Belarus.
"The 4th Extraordinary Congress of the Universal Postal Union opened in Riyadh. The Extraordinary Congress, which is the plenipotentiary assembly of the 192 member countries of the UPU, will decide on several key proposals aimed at ensuring a sustainable future for international postal services. The Belarusian delegation at the congress is headed by Deputy Communications and Informatization Minister Natalia Gordeyenko," the press service said.
“I believe that the proposals before the Extraordinary Congress this week address the views of the majority of Union member countries,” UPU Director General Masahiko Metoki sid as he opened the event. Ministers, heads of postal regulators and heads of postal companies will take the opportunity to meet in Riyadh to discuss the future strategy of the UPU for 2026-2029 during the UPU Strategic Summit on 4 and 5 October.
The UPU Congress brought together representatives of the communications administrations of the Regional Commonwealth for Communications (RCC) of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and the RCC Executive Committee.
The UPU Congress will be running until 5 October.
