The first million tonnes of peat have been extracted in Belarus since the beginning of the season, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Energy Ministry.
According to the latest data, the volume of peat extraction by organizations of the peat industry of the Energy Ministry amounted to 1,056,000 million tonnes this season.
Peat extraction is carried out by all peat-briquetting plants. Current weather conditions enable the plants to maintain stable operation. This year the country plans to extract more than 2 million tonnes of peat.
Belarus is leading in terms of peat extraction and ranks first in the world in terms of peat briquette production. In H1 2024, the organizations of the Beltopgaz Production Association produced 288,700 tonnes of peat briquettes and 59,800 tonnes of dried peat.
The peat industry contributes to the country's energy security. Peat accounts for about 15% of the total share of local fuels utilization.
