Belarusian scientists invent inhibitors, granulated fertilizers for agriculture

29.05.2023

What scientists are creating for agriculture has been explained by Professor Galina Pirogovskaya, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Chief Research Worker of the Lab for New Forms of Fertilizers and Ameliorants at the Soil Science and Agrochemistry Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

According to Galina Pirogovskaya, the institute has developed liquid carbamide, which can deliver 19kg of nitrogen per hectare. A Eurasian patent for this invention has been obtained.

“Fertilizers with prolonged effect have been created together with another manufacturing enterprise but not on industrial scale for now. We've added nitrification inhibitor made in Vitebsk as the additive to ensure the prolonged effect. Apart from that, we compared this nitrification inhibitor with a Czech one over the course of three years. I'd like to note that the effectiveness of our inhibitor is on par. We use binding agents based on rapeseed oil, which are also made in Belarus. Meanwhile, all our lab results need to be rechecked and enterprises have to try to produce them. Because nitrogen fertilizers can be quite explosive,” Galina Pirogovskaya stated.

The scientist also mentioned the production of granulated sulfur-containing fertilizers in Grodno. Microcrystalline ammonium sulfate is granulated for the sake of making these fertilizers. Galina Pirogovskaya noted that scientists had added boron to it and made a fertilizer with a regulator of crop growth – hydrohumate.
