It is high time we drew up a law to introduce legal responsibility for falsification and distortion of the history of the Great Patriotic War, Marat Zhilinsky, Rector of Graduate School of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, told journalists on 28 April, BelTA has learned.
“I believe that it is high time we adopted a law, perhaps within the framework of the Union State [of Belarus and Russia], on legal responsibility for falsification and distortion of the history of the Great Patriotic War. It should provide for not only administrative, but also criminal responsibility,” Marat Zhilinsky noted.
This matter is especially important nowadays, he stressed. “We are constantly witnessing attempts to rewrite the history of the Great Victory and Belarus and to downplay the contribution of the Soviet people to the victory in the Great Patriotic War and World War II,” Marat Zhilinsky added.
“Belarus and Russia have recently launched criminal investigations into crimes of Nazi invaders and their accomplices in their territories. This demonstrates that our countries are on the same page in this matter. Our governments have made the right decision to open such criminal cases,” Marat Zhilinsky added.
