04.08.2023

Rector of Belarusian State University (BSU) Andrei Korol and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iran to Belarus Alireza Sanei have discussed cooperation prospects between the university and Iran, BelTA learned from the press service of the university.

The meeting was also attended by BSU Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Internationalization of Education Konstantin Kozadayev and Deputy Head of the BSU International Relations Directorate Vladimir Galynsky.

The Iranian diplomats visited the leading Belarusian university in order to explore cooperation opportunities in education and science. “The parties outlined priority avenues of interaction, which include promotion of academic mobility and international contacts, the update of existing inter-university agreements between the two countries and the signing of new ones. Much attention was paid to professional training and language courses for students and teachers. In particular, Alireza Sanei pledged the embassy's assistance in arranging the Persian language courses and personnel training for future diplomats of Belarus and Iran at the Faculty of International Relations of Belarusian State University,” the press service of the university said.

They also discussed the possibility of granting the embassy's scholarships to Belarusian students who promote Iranian culture.

These topics will be discussed in greater detail at the upcoming international conference on the state and prospects of the Belarus-Iran cooperation. The conference is due in October when the two countries will mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

BSU and Iran have four open-ended agreements and a memorandum of understanding. These are the agreements between BSU and Amirkabir University of Technology, the University of Tehran, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Belarus, the Materials and Energy Research Center (MERC). In addition to that, the Center for Iranian Studies was set up at the Faculty of International Relations of Belarusian State University.
