Some periods of Belarusian history have simply been privatized by other countries, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) Vladimir Gusakov told journalists prior to the meeting of the National Council for Historical Policy, BelTA has learned.
“Some periods of our history have not been studied enough. Some periods have simply been privatized by others: by the Lithuanians as regards the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, or by the Poles as regards the Rzeczpospolita. Therefore, we must restore our genuine, objective history. Our people have a long-standing history and their history is just as important as the history of any European nation or state. We can and should be proud of our history,” Vladimir Gusakov emphasized.
The head of the National Academy of Sciences believes that the creation of the National Council for Historical Policy is of great importance for Belarus. “Indeed, we must restore the true history of Belarus from ancient times to the present, in various periods. This should be the basis for building a historical policy, and the historical policy should be the basis for ideological work,” he said.
