Refugees, especially families with children, hoped that they would celebrate the New Year not on the border, but in more comfortable conditions, in the EU countries, one of the refugees staying in a temporary accommodation facility near the Belarus-Poland border told BelTA.
The refugees have been staying on the border for 57 days. Now about 500 people, including women and children, are staying in the transport and logistics center Bruzgi near the Belarusian-Polish border.
"We are in limbo. We did not think that we would celebrate the New Year at the border. We hoped that by this time we would be in Germany or other EU country. I have three children. I want to get into the EU primarily for a better life for them. How did we celebrate the New Year? We did not. We just went to bed. All days are alike here. We live in the hope that the West will finally pay attention to our situation,” the man said. He thanked the Belarusian side for the help, for providing refugees with everything they need. The man's children are happy to study in the mobile educational center, which has been mounted next to the transport and logistics center.
"Indeed, help is good. We are not starving or freezing but out goal is to reach Germany. We will not return home. There is nothing to return to," the refugee emphasized.
