Russian publishers plan over 60 events at Minsk book fair

Russia will be the guest of honor of the 30th edition of Minsk International Book Fair, which will open on 22 March. The Russian program will celebrate the richest Russian cultural and literary heritage, since 2023 has been declared the Year of the Russian Language as a Language of Interethnic Communication in the CIS, BelTA learned from the press service of the Directorate of the Moscow International Book Fair, which is the operator of the Books of Russia program at the Minsk book forum.

The Books from Russia exhibition will present the books by 14 leading Russian publishing houses. In addition, another 120 Russian publishers will provide books for sale and expositions. The Russian stand will conduct more than 60 events in two stages: book presentations, meet and greets with Russian and Belarusian authors, discussions, roundtables, literary readings and public talks. 16 Russian writers and poets will take part in the exhibition. Families with children can expect an interesting program of master classes and a large number of children's books.

The key event will be the presentation of the project "Modern Literature of the CIS Countries". Three volumes of the anthology will be presented in Minsk: "Modern literature of the CIS countries. Prose", "Modern children's literature of the CIS countries" and "Modern literature of the CIS countries. Poetry". Bilingual anthologies will also be presented: many well-known writers of Belarus took part in the translation of modern Russian prose and poetry into the Belarusian language.

The anthology of modern prose includes the works of 94 authors from 11 countries. The book is more than 1200 pages long. These are stories and pieces of works written over the past 30 years in all languages of the former Soviet Union. "There are also Belarusian writers among the authors of the anthology: People's Writer of Belarus Nikolai Cherginets, winners of state and literary prizes Ivan Saverchenko, Vladimir Salamakha, Georgy Marchuk, Viktor Pravdin, Vladimir Gavrilovich," the press service noted.

The poetic anthology includes poems by more than a hundred poets from the CIS member states, including Belarusians: the author of the Belarusian anthem Vladimir Karizna, and also Mikhail Pozdnyakov, Vladimir Mozgo and other authors.

The children's literature edition is no less representative. It includes the works of almost a hundred of the best contemporary authors of children's literature from 11 countries.

The Books from Russia exhibition will run meet & greet programs featuring Russian writers Leonid Yuzefovich, Roman Senchin, Alexei Varlamov and also Ales Kozhedub, who writes stories in Russian and Belarusian languages about the war, post-war childhood, life of the Belarusian hinterland.

A separate program at the book fair will be presented by the group of companies LitRes, the leader on the market of electronic and audiobooks in Russia and the CIS countries. There will be many other events prepared by Russian guests for adult and children's audiences. In addition, the House of Moscow will host a sci seminar "Duty, responsibility, time: a modern picture of the world through the prism of Russian literature" with the participation of the International Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature and the professional community of Russian scholars of Belarus.
