Lukashenko blames Ukrainian nationalist politicians for slaughter in Ukraine

21.08.2024

The slaughter in Ukraine was started by Ukrainian frenzied nationalist politicians while the nation had no intention of fighting a war. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement in an extended version of the recent interview with the TV channel Rossiya. The extended version was aired by the TV channel Belarus One in the evening, BelTA has learned.

The head of state noted that the ongoing events in Ukraine are very tragic for him partially due to personal reasons. Aleksandr Lukashenko has repeatedly stated that his roots are somewhere between Chernigov and Kiev. “What is going on is tragic for me,” he said.

The president pointed out that Ukrainian politicians bear the responsibility for everything that is happening in the country today. They could have prevented the tragedy but they did not do it. “They started this slaughter in front of my very eyes. Nazis as you call them. This nationalistic leadership led by Poroshenko, Zelensky, and so on. They are to blame. And things went downhill from there. They started it. The Ukrainian nation did not fight and did not intend to fight against us. And we against them either. This war was started by frenzied nationalistic politicians,” the head of state stressed.

Although after his rise to power Vladimir Zelensky could have abandoned the policy that had been pursued in Donbass and Odessa where people in a trade union building were burned alive. But he did not do it due to his political inexperience and due to other circumstances. “Vladimir Zelensky is an inexperienced person. He inherited a heavy legacy,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “It was impossible for him. First of all, he is no politician. He was not ready for it. And due to that he couldn’t abandon the policy.”

Another Ukrainian politician, who could have influenced the development of the events, was Piotr Poroshenko when he was the president of Ukraine. The possibility was discussed by the leaders of the three countries. By Vladimir Putin, Aleksandr Lukashenko, and Piotr Poroshenko. “The three of us ‘wallowed about’ to prevent that. Poroshenko was in agreement and understood the point. But then he moved away from this reconciliation policy,” the head of state reminded.

The president also mentioned his conversation with Vladimir Putin and Sergei Shoigu, who was the Russian defense minister, soon after a firefight for the Donetsk airport. Many Ukrainians died in that firefight. “They lost this firefight. Putin and I were in negotiations in Sochi back then. I also talked to Shoigu over the phone then. Shoigu told me: “It is time to finish this slaughter. Why do we need it?’ That was the policy,” Aleksandr Lukashenko pointed out.

“After previous nationalists and the rest Poroshenko could have built such a [reconciliation] policy,” the head of state stressed. “And he promised that it would happen. But then he abandoned it under the pressure of the West. Primarily England. They were conduits. He abandoned the policy.”
